If you’re still debating whether AI “really works,” you’re the last person at the party.

YC’s Spring 2026 batch (189 of 194 companies launched ahead of Demo Day June 16) isn’t a bet that AI is real, that’s settled. It’s a bet on the economy that runs on top of agents. The distinction matters more than most people admit.

91% of the batch is AI-focused. But the internal breakdown is where it gets interesting.

46% is vertical AI: AI-native credentialing platforms, SOX compliance automation, ServiceNow replacements. Competent, predictable, slightly boring.

The real signal is underneath. 17% is building infrastructure specifically for agents: auth layers, runtimes, phone numbers, cloud platforms. Another 15% is straight-up deleting service departments with autonomous AI. Combined, that’s nearly a third of the most talent-dense startup cohort on earth pointed at the second-order agent economy.

Clawvisor sells authorization layers so AI agents can use Gmail and Slack without going rogue. AgentPhone sells phone numbers to AI agents. ReasonBlocks makes agents cheaper and more reliable, because agents, like junior engineers, need supervision and a budget. Akkari runs the full customer ops workflow from first sales call through expansion with no humans. And Klaimee sells liability insurance for the AI agents you deploy.

There are now actuaries pricing the risk of your autonomous software making a bad decision. The LLM-wrapper era didn’t just end. It got a proper burial.

What the Infrastructure Bet Actually Means

The services market is $50 trillion. Software is $300 billion. For 30 years, tech couldn’t touch services at scale: too much human judgment, too much customization, too much trust required. The Spring 2026 batch is the first cohort betting that threshold has crossed, not by making services more efficient, but by replacing the service worker entirely.

If you’re running a business and still treating AI as a vendor decision rather than an infrastructure decision, read this batch carefully. You’re not competing with software vendors anymore. You’re competing with the firms your customers currently write checks to. And now those firms need insurance for when their AI makes a mistake.

Actuaries don’t show up early. They show up when there’s enough money moving, enough damage being done, and enough uncertainty to price. Electricity got them. Cars got them. The internet got them.

When the most ambitious founders in the world are building liability products for AI agents, the agent economy isn’t coming.

It’s already got a finance department.

The numbers are in.
